acmochi Fans of tenor banjo who scour the digital bins of BC will inevitably come across the same few albums as the other banjo-heads out there. It's like a shared journey that will become a literary trope in the dystopian trans-human future where we read search histories as though they're archeological relics of the past. I would like to take this moment to say hello to my fellow Banjocamp mariners. This album is awesome, and it magically sounds different every time you listen to it. 🪕~~*🐇* Magic! 😮 Favorite track: Doherty’s, The Sunny Banks (Reels).

“one of the best banjo records in recent memory…a must-have…’Solid Ground’ is an excellent album that I think every banjo player should own. Mulchrone’s playing is tasteful and inventive, and his sound is brilliant....Definitely recommended!
-Daniel Neely, The Irish Echo

"A solid debut...in an intelligently assembled recital played with consummate technique...finger-pickin' good"
-Songlines

"Probably one of the world’s most unjustly maligned instruments in the hands of a master the banjo takes on new life and without doubt Shane Mulchrone is just hat – a man who not only knows his way around the instrument but able to give it multiple shades of both light and dark.
‘Solid Ground’ is an album that will not only change the minds of many about banjo music but will ensure Mulchrone’s name remains among the ranks of ‘masters of their art’”.
-Charlie Elland, FolkWords

“In an age when commercial Irish banjo music has drifted towards Celt-Grass this collection from Mulchrone reminds us of the joy that the banjo has been bringing to traditional music for nearly a century.”
-Sean Laffey, Irish Music Magazine

"Oh, this is just lovely! Buy this great CD, and prove that not all those unkind banjo jokes are true!"
-Rod Stradling, Musical Traditions

"Solid Ground is as close to easy-listening banjo as you are likely to find. This is his first recording, but is unlikely to be his last I'd say"
-Alex Monaghan, The Living Tradition

"There is a wonderful personality in the music of Solid Ground"
-Derek Copley, Irish Music Magazine
